About Xplorer Maps

Founded in 2010 by two brothers—a talented, globe-trotting artist and an entrepreneurial geographer and outdoor enthusiast—Xplorer Maps was born from a shared mission: to create uniquely hand-drawn, antique-styled story maps of national parks and iconic travel destinations that foster lasting connections between people and places.

More than sixty illustrated maps later, the Robitaille brothers, with steadfast support from their partners Julie and Ness, have built a brand rooted in storytelling through art. Each map captures not just geography, but the character, culture, and history of the landscapes it depicts.

Every design is 100% original, meticulously illustrated by world-renowned artist Chris Robitaille. Beginning with intricate pen-and-ink linework and brought to life through multiple layers of watercolor washes, each map takes between five and eight weeks to complete—making it a true work of art. Unlike much of today’s digital map art that relies on stock or open-source imagery, every line, letter, and illustration in an Xplorer Map is drawn entirely by hand. No shortcuts. No overlays. Just authentic, one-of-a-kind artwork.

As a Made in Montana family business and proud member of 1% for the Planet, Xplorer Maps donates a portion of all sales to nonprofit organizations across the U.S., Canada, and Africa. These partnerships help support education and conservation efforts that protect public lands and wildlife for generations to come.

With an ever-expanding collection of map products, Xplorer Maps continues to inspire connection, curiosity, and appreciation for the world’s most remarkable places—one hand-drawn map at a time.
