Stanfords was founded in London in 1853 and has over decades published maps, atlases and text books. Since its acquisition in 1946 by the George Philip Group the company has focused on the retailing of maps and travel books and other travel related products. In 2001 Stanfords demerged from the George Philip Group to become an independent business again.The company currently operates retail shops in 3 locations with 2 in London and one in Bristol. We also have a business mapping office in Manchester and an internet business in Welwyn Garden City.
